After reading the reviews, I went to a store to try on a smaller size than I usually wear, but found that I needed my regular size after all (especially with thicker socks and the boot liner). I purchased the merlot, which is a beautiful, deep, pinky-red color, almost neutral but not as boring as black or brown. I have skinny calves compared to my large feet and usually have an abundance of room in tall boots, not the case here. I had just enough room for the boot liner and my tucked in jeans with just a little breathing room. These were comfortable the whole first day I wore them, not a full-on rainy day, so I can't vouch for that yet. My one complaint is the waxy residue that builds up continuously the more these boots come in contact with anything. While these really are utilitarian boots, this may bother people who are as anal about being neat and clean as I am. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase and look forward to using these to take the dog out of our new apartment in the rain and snow.
